Bexley Carbon Project

Project Information:

Bexley Carbon Project is a soil carbon sequestration project located in the Tatiara District of South Australia, approximately 12km west of the township of Keith. Registered on June 30, 2025, the project spans 192.40 hectares of agricultural land. The Keith region, often referred to as the "Lucerne Capital of Australia," is a highly productive agricultural zone supporting mixed farming operations, including cropping, livestock grazing, and seed production. The area generally experiences a Mediterranean climate with winter-dominant rainfall averaging around 460mm annually, and the landscape typically features sandy loams over clay subsoils, known regionally as "sand over clay" duplex soils.

Operating under the Estimation of Soil Organic Carbon Sequestration using Measurement and Models (2021) methodology, the project aims to generate Australian Carbon Credit Units (ACCUs) by measuring increases in soil carbon stocks over time. The primary project activity involves applying synthetic or non-synthetic fertilisers to address specific material nutrient deficiencies in the soil. In the Tatiara region, correcting deficiencies in phosphorus or trace elements is a common practice that can significantly increase pasture biomass and root depth. This enhanced plant growth draws more carbon dioxide from the atmosphere and stores it in the soil profile as organic carbon.

The project proponent is Agriprove Solutions Co No.2 Pty Ltd, a special purpose vehicle managed by Agriprove, Australia’s largest soil carbon project developer. This project utilizes Agriprove’s data-driven model to streamline the baseline measurement and ongoing reporting requirements. By optimizing soil nutrition, the project seeks to demonstrate that correcting "the limiting factor" in plant growth can serve as a viable carbon abatement strategy in broadacre farming systems.
