Forbes Aggregation - Planting Phase 1

Forbes Aggregation - Planting Phase 1 is an environmental planting project situated approximately 40km southwest of the township of Forbes in the Central West region of New South Wales. Registered in March 2025, the project covers a land area of 173.86 hectares. This region is a major agricultural hub, historically utilized for dryland cropping, producing winter cereals like wheat and canola, as well as sheep and cattle grazing.

The project operates under the Reforestation by Environmental or Mallee Plantings-FullCAM 2024 methodology. This involves establishing a permanent mix of native tree and shrub species on land that was previously cleared of forest. To generate Australian Carbon Credit Units (ACCUs), the planting must be managed to achieve "forest cover," typically defined as attaining a crown cover of at least 20% and a height of at least 2 meters. The 2024 iteration of this methodology introduced updates to streamline registration and allows for the use of FullCAM modelling to estimate carbon sequestration over time.

Environmentally, the Forbes region is classified as semi-arid to temperate, receiving an average annual rainfall of approximately 530mm, which is generally distributed evenly throughout the year or slightly winter-dominant. The soils in this area are predominantly Red Chromosols (Red Brown Earths) and Dermosols, which are fertile but can be susceptible to erosion if vegetation cover is removed.

As an "Aggregation," this project is likely part of a larger portfolio of properties managed by NBS Agriculture, allowing for streamlined administration across multiple planting sites. The project activities emphasize the use of a species mix that reflects the local native vegetation community, ensuring biodiversity benefits alongside carbon sequestration.
