Kinglake Source

Project Information:
Kinglake Source is an environmental planting project located in the Kinglake Ranges, approximately 50km northeast of Melbourne, Victoria. Registered in March 2025, the project covers 27.6 hectares of land in a region renowned for its rich red volcanic soils and high rainfall, which historically supports tall wet forests and horticulture. The project is situated near the township of Kinglake, an area where land use is a mix of conservation (Kinglake National Park), grazing, and boutique agriculture such as berry and potato farming.
The project operates under the Reforestation by Environmental or Mallee Plantings-FullCAM 2024 methodology. This involves establishing permanent plantings of native tree and shrub species, specifically a mix local to the area, on land that was previously cleared. Standard requirements for this project type typically mandate a stocking density of at least 200 stems per hectare to ensure a forest canopy develops. The carbon sequestered by these growing trees is calculated using the Full Carbon Accounting Model (FullCAM).
This project is managed by Landcare Australia Limited, likely under their "CarbonSMART" initiative, which focuses on generating high-integrity carbon credits with verified biodiversity and community co-benefits. The Kinglake region acts as a water catchment for majestic mountain ash forests and several river systems; thus, revegetation here plays a critical role in catchment health and wildlife corridor connectivity.
