Snowdon Carbon Project

Project Information:
Snowdon Carbon Project is a soil carbon sequestration project located approximately 25km southwest of Bundaberg in the Wide Bay-Burnett region of Queensland. Registered in September 2025, the project covers 166.55 hectares of agricultural land. The Bundaberg region is traditionally dominated by intensive agriculture, particularly sugarcane cultivation, horticulture (such as macadamias and avocados), and grazing.
This project operates under the Estimation of Soil Organic Carbon Sequestration using Measurement and Models methodology (2021). This method allows landholders to earn carbon credits by measuring increases in soil carbon stocks resulting from changes in land management. The project involves a transition from intensive tillage practices to reduced or no-tillage systems. Additional activities include the integration of legume species into cropping or pasture systems and the use of cover crops to maintain vegetation cover and improve soil structure.
The local environment is characterized by a subtropical climate with summer-dominant rainfall, averaging around 1,000mm annually. The region is known for its diverse and productive soil profiles, often featuring fertile red ferrosols (volcanic soils) or alluvial loams derived from the nearby Burnett River system, which are well-suited to the project's objective of building soil organic matter. The project is managed by Agriprove, a prominent soil carbon project developer that utilizes a partnership model to facilitate baseline sampling and ongoing compliance for landholders.
