Jamea Sugar Gum Carbon Plantation Project
ERF199697
Project Information:
Jamea Sugar Gum Carbon Plantation Project is a commercial plantation forestry project located at Dandaloo, approximately 56km west of Narromine and 45km southwest of Trangie in the Central West region of New South Wales. Registered in April 2025, the project covers a substantial area of 1,886 hectares.
The project operates under the Carbon Credits (Plantation Forestry) Methodology Determination 2022. This specific method allows for the establishment of new plantation forests on land that has not supported native forest or plantation for at least seven years. Unlike environmental plantings which are permanent, this project is designed for the commercial harvesting of wood products, sequestering carbon in the growing trees and long-term wood products.
The Dandaloo region is a well-regarded agricultural zone known for mixed farming. The landscape is characterized by grey self-mulching clays and rich red loam soils, typically supporting winter crops such as wheat, barley, and canola, as well as livestock grazing. The project site is part of the "Jamea" aggregation, a property historically utilized for these mixed agricultural activities.
The project involves planting Sugar Gum (Eucalyptus cladocalyx), a species chosen for its resilience in semi-arid environments. Sugar Gums thrive in the region's rainfall band (approximately 400-600mm annually) and tolerate the clay-loam soil profiles found at the site. This species is highly durable and is commonly harvested for high-value timber applications such as poles, posts, and heavy construction material.
