Jamea Sugar Gum Carbon Plantation Project

Jamea Sugar Gum Carbon Plantation Project is a plantation forestry project located in the Narromine local government area, approximately 60km west of the town of Narromine in central-western New South Wales. It was registered in April 2025 and covers an area of 1786.22 hectares.

Plantation forestry projects involve sequestering carbon by establishing a new plantation forest, converting a short-rotation plantation to a long-rotation one, or modifying management practices in existing plantations. Standard requirements dictate that trees must be managed for commercial harvesting of wood products and planted at appropriate commercial stocking densities to yield viable timber.

The Narromine region is known for its strong agricultural sector, heavily focusing on sheep and cattle grazing as well as broadacre cropping like wheat and cotton. The area falls under a semi-arid to medium rainfall classification, experiencing a highly variable long-term average annual rainfall of around 527 mm. Soil types in this terrain are quite diverse, ranging from free-draining sands and loams to heavier, impervious cracking clays.

This project sequesters carbon by establishing and maintaining a new plantation forest of Sugar Gums for the commercial harvesting of wood products. Developed by Carbon Neutral Pty Ltd, an experienced environmental and carbon project developer in the Australian market, the plantation aims to generate Australian Carbon Credit Units (ACCUs) while supplying commercial timber. Additionally, it was recorded that on June 16, 2026, a variation to the project area was submitted, formally amending the listed area boundaries.
