Carr Carbon Project 4
ERF199668
Project Information:
Carr Carbon Project 4 is a soil carbon sequestration project located near Westmar, approximately 80km north of Goondiwindi in the Western Downs region of Queensland. Registered in December 2024, the project covers roughly 244 hectares of agricultural land situated within the Brigalow Belt, an area renowned for its productive mixed cropping and grazing operations.
The project operates under the 2021 Soil Carbon methodology, which rewards landholders for increasing soil organic carbon levels through improved management practices. Specifically, this project involves re-establishing or rejuvenating pastures via seeding and altering grazing intensity or duration to enhance soil health and vegetation cover. By optimizing the interaction between livestock and pasture, the project aims to sequester atmospheric carbon into the soil profile, generating Australian Carbon Credit Units (ACCUs) based on measured and modelled increases over time.
The Western Downs region is characterized by a semi-arid to sub-tropical climate, typically receiving between 500mm and 600mm of rainfall annually, with higher variability in summer months. The local terrain consists largely of flat to gently undulating plains dominated by Vertosols, fertile, grey and black cracking clays that have high water-holding capacity but require careful management to prevent compaction. The "Carr" designation in the project name, alongside the numeral "4," suggests this is part of a larger aggregation or a segmented property undertaking a staged carbon farming rollout facilitated by the proponent, Agriprove.
