Project Information:

AA2025R_WoodsdaleP_S3 is a plantation forestry project located at Woodsdale, approximately 32km south-east of Oatlands in the Southern Midlands region of Tasmania. It was registered in November 2024 and initially covers an area of 135.35ha, with a variation in July 2025 adding more areas to the project footprint.

Plantation forestry projects under the 2022 method involve establishing new plantations, converting short-rotation to long-rotation, or avoiding the conversion of an existing or recently harvested plantation forest to non-forested land. The method requires continuing the plantation and managing it for commercial harvesting of wood products, sequestering carbon that would otherwise be lost.

The Southern Midlands area is known for its pastoral grazing, wool, and grain farming, alongside active commercial forestry operations. The area is considered to have low to moderate rainfall, generally averaging 450–700mm annually, as it sits in the rain shadow of the Central Highlands. Soils in the region are generally sandy loams and duplex soils featuring sandy loam topsoils over clay subsoils.

This project is run by The Trust Company (Australia) Limited as trustee for The Tasmanian Carbon Afforestation Sub-Trust, with SFM Environmental Solutions Pty Ltd acting as the agent. SFM is a prominent forestry management company that handles large native regrowth and plantation estates across Tasmania and mainland Australia.
