Project Information:
AA2025R_WoodsdaleP_S3 is a Plantation Forestry project located in Woodsdale, approximately 32km southeast of Oatlands and 65km northeast of Hobart in Tasmania's Southern Midlands. It was registered in November 2024 and initially covered 135.35 hectares.
Plantation forestry projects under this methodology generate carbon credits by establishing new plantations, converting short-rotation plantations to long-rotation ones, or avoiding the conversion of existing plantations to non-forested land. This specific project sequesters carbon by ensuring an existing or recently harvested plantation is maintained as a continuous, permanent forest rather than being cleared or converted back to agriculture.
The Southern Midlands area around Woodsdale is highly regarded for its deep agricultural roots, predominantly featuring pastoral grazing, wool and grain farming, as well as forestry operations. The region experiences a cool-temperate climate with moderate rainfall, and the landscape is supported by a diversity of soils, typically including versatile sandy loams and well-structured clays.
SFM Environmental Solutions Pty Ltd is participating in the project alongside the primary proponent, The Trust Company (Australia) Limited as trustee for The Tasmanian Carbon Afforestation Sub-Trust. A notable variation was made to the project on July 25, 2025, which officially added new land areas to the project boundary to expand its overall carbon sequestration capacity.
