Project Information:

Blind Spot Reveg Project 1 is a boutique environmental planting project located in Blewitt Springs, South Australia, approximately 40 kilometers south of Adelaide. Registered in August 2024, the project covers a small area of just 1.00 hectare within the renowned McLaren Vale wine region. The surrounding landscape is heavily dominated by viticulture and lifestyle properties, characterized by the region's distinctive rolling hills and ancient sandy soils.

The project operates under the Reforestation by Environmental or Mallee Plantings (FullCAM) methodology. This method requires the permanent establishment of mixed native tree species at a density sufficient to reach forest cover status, typically at least 200 stems per hectare. Given the proponent's background and the small project size, this planting likely serves as a biodiversity corridor or shelterbelt, designed to enhance local ecosystem services alongside agricultural operations.

Environmentally, the Blewitt Springs area is famous for its unique geology, specifically deep Maslin Sands over clay, which provide excellent drainage and vine health. The region enjoys a Mediterranean climate with warm, dry summers and cool, wet winters, averaging annual rainfall between 600mm and 700mm.

A notable aspect of this project is the involvement of Alexander Sas, a recognized expert in the Australian wine industry. Sas has held senior roles with Wine Australia and Vinehealth Australia, specializing in viticulture R&D and biosecurity. His participation suggests the project may be intended as a demonstration of sustainable vineyard management, integrating carbon farming with high-value wine grape production.
