Project Information:

Kaizen Carbon 2 (Revoked) is a soil carbon sequestration project located approximately 35km northwest of Barcaldine in Central Queensland. Registered in August 2024, the project covered an area of roughly 8,303 hectares within the Barcaldine Regional Council area. The surrounding region is predominantly characterized by sheep and cattle grazing on native pastures, a land use consistent with the project's operational activities.

The project operated under the Estimation of Soil Organic Carbon Sequestration using Measurement and Models (2021) methodology. This method incentivizes landholders to adopt new agricultural management practices, such as altering stocking rates, grazing duration, or intensity, to increase Soil Organic Carbon (SOC) stocks. Under this protocol, proponents must conduct baseline soil sampling and subsequent measurement rounds to scientifically quantify the carbon sequestered in the soil over time.

Environmentally, the Barcaldine region experiences a hot semi-arid climate with a summer-dominant average rainfall of approximately 450-500mm. The landscape in this specific area, west of the township, is typically defined by open Mitchell grass downs featuring cracking clay soils (Vertosols), which are known for their high fertility but can be challenging to manage during dry spells.

A notable feature of this project is its recent revocation on January 22, 2026, under Section 30 of the Carbon Credits (Carbon Farming Initiative) Rule 2015. This section typically governs the voluntary revocation of a project declaration at the request of the proponent. Given the registration date of August 2024, the project remained active for less than 18 months before being revoked.
