Tuckey Carbon Project 2

Tuckey Carbon Project 2 is a soil carbon sequestration project located approximately 30 kilometers southeast of Boorowa in the Hilltops region of New South Wales. Registered in August 2024, the project covers a relatively focused area of 180 hectares. The surrounding region is deeply rooted in agricultural heritage, primarily known for fine wool production, sheep grazing, and mixed cropping operations.

The project operates under the 2021 Soil Carbon (Measurement and Models) methodology. This framework allows landholders to earn carbon credits (ACCUs) by implementing new management activities that increase the amount of organic carbon stored in the soil. For this specific project, activities include altering grazing intensity to improve vegetation cover, applying synthetic or non-synthetic fertilizers to address nutrient deficiencies, and rejuvenating pastures with legume species. These actions are designed to boost plant growth and root mass, which in turn draws more carbon from the atmosphere into the soil profile.

Environmentally, the Hilltops region is characterized by a temperate climate with a long history of pastoral use. The area typically receives reliable rainfall, averaging between 600mm and 700mm annually, with a winter-spring dominance that supports pasture growth. The local soil landscape is varied but commonly features granite-derived soils, such as yellow podzolic soils and soloths, which can be naturally acidic and benefit significantly from the nutrient management and organic matter improvements proposed by this project.

An interesting aspect of this project is its designation as "Project 2" alongside the proponent "Agriprove Solutions Co No.2 Pty Ltd," which suggests it is part of a larger or phased carbon farming initiative on the property or aggregation. Agriprove, the project developer, is a dominant player in the Australian soil carbon sector, reportedly managing a vast majority of the country's registered soil carbon projects.
