Kemp Carbon Project 2

Project Information:
Kemp Carbon Project 2 is a soil carbon sequestration project located approximately 10km northwest of Tabulam, in the Northern Rivers region of New South Wales. Registered in November 2024, the project covers a project area of roughly 93 hectares. The site is situated inland from the coast, roughly halfway between Tenterfield and Casino, in an area predominantly used for beef cattle grazing and forestry.
The project operates under the 2021 Soil Carbon Methodology, which rewards landholders for increasing Soil Organic Carbon (SOC) stocks over time. To achieve this, the project activities include applying synthetic or non-synthetic fertilizers to correct nutrient deficiencies, establishing new pasture on previously limited land, and rejuvenating existing pastures through seeding. Additionally, the proponent will alter grazing intensity and duration to promote vegetation cover. These changes are designed to boost plant growth and root biomass, which in turn draws more carbon into the soil profile.
Environmentally, the Tabulam region is advantageous for soil carbon projects due to its relatively high rainfall, often exceeding 1,000mm annually, which supports vigorous pasture growth essential for sequestration. The soils in this undulating terrain are typically comprised of Chromosols or texture-contrast soils, which are commonly utilized for grazing in the Northern Tablelands and slopes. The "2" in the project name suggests this is likely a second stage or a sister project to an earlier registration by the same landholder, managed by the project developer Agriprove.
