Dykehead Environmental Planting Project
ERF195913
Project Information:
Dykehead Environmental Planting Project is an environmental planting project located in Dykehead, a rural locality within the North Burnett Region of Queensland, situated inland from Bundaberg and roughly 45 kilometres west of the town of Mundubbera. It was registered in July 2024 and covers an area of 416.15 hectares of land previously dedicated to agricultural use.
The project operates under the Reforestation by Environmental or Mallee Plantings (FullCAM) methodology. Environmental planting projects involve establishing permanent, mixed-species plantings of native trees and shrubs on land that has been predominantly used for agricultural purposes for at least five years. These plantings must reflect the structure and composition of local native vegetation communities and are generally planted at densities designed to ultimately achieve a functional forest canopy cover threshold.
The North Burnett area is heavily utilized for agriculture, including beef cattle grazing, cropping, and horticulture. The region experiences a subtropical climate characterized by summer-dominant rainfall, while the local soils typically consist of deep brown and grey cracking clays (Vertosols), loams, and red basalt-derived gradational soils (Ferrosols).
Notably, this project serves as a seed asset for the Silva Carbon Origination Fund, a joint venture between Roc Partners and C6 Investment Management. In partnership with Covalent Land Australia, the proponents have focused on integrating agricultural productivity with environmental stewardship. Recent reports indicate that the initiative involved the planting of over 160,000 mixed-species native trees on this Queensland site, which is forecasted to capture approximately 460,000 tonnes of carbon over a 25-year period. The project also places a strong emphasis on cultural heritage; the proponents undertook extensive cultural heritage surveys and implemented protection measures for artifacts of cultural significance in close collaboration with the Auburn Hawkwood People Aboriginal Corporation (AHPAC). In April 2025, the project's registered participant name was officially varied from CoYou Investments Pty Ltd to Silva Capital Operating Company Pty Ltd.
