Durack Carbon Project 2

Project Information:
Durack Carbon Project 2 is a soil carbon project located in the Tatiara District of South Australia, approximately 15km southwest of the town of Bordertown. Registered in July 2024, the project covers 164 hectares of agricultural land. The project name "Durack" likely refers to the specific property or family name associated with the landholding, rather than the suburb of Durack found in other states.
The Tatiara region, often referred to as "Good Country," is a prime agricultural hub known for its reliable mixed farming systems, including broadacre cropping and livestock grazing. The area typically receives moderate annual rainfall between 450mm and 500mm. The local soil profile is characteristically sandy or loamy topsoil over a clay subsoil (often referred to as "sand over clay" or Group G soils), which is highly responsive to management changes aimed at improving soil organic carbon levels.
This project operates under the 2021 Soil Carbon methodology (Estimation of Soil Organic Carbon Sequestration using Measurement and Models). This method credits landholders for increases in soil organic carbon (SOC) stocks. Agriprove Solutions, the project proponent, employs a model that typically involves establishing a baseline of SOC through physical sampling, implementing new management activities, in this case, applying synthetic or non-synthetic fertilizers to address nutrient deficiencies, and re-measuring over time to calculate carbon abatement. By correcting nutrient deficits, the project aims to boost plant growth and root biomass, thereby increasing the volume of carbon sequestered in the soil profile.
