Newman Carbon Project 3

Project Information:

Newman Carbon Project 3 is a soil carbon project located approximately 8km east of Loxton in South Australia's Mallee region. It was registered on July 22, 2024, and covers an area of 227.16 hectares.

The project operates under the Carbon Credits (Estimation of Soil Organic Carbon Sequestration using Measurement and Models) Methodology Determination 2021. This methodology provides the framework for crediting emissions reductions under the Australian Carbon Credit Unit (ACCU) Scheme by increasing the carbon stored in agricultural soils. Carbon stock changes are calculated using either a measurement-only approach or a hybrid approach that combines soil carbon model estimates with regular physical soil sampling.

The Loxton region is characterised by a semi-arid, low-rainfall climate. Soils in the area are predominantly deep sandy soils or sandy clay loams that can sometimes suffer from compaction and low moisture retention, often requiring careful amelioration. Regional land use primarily consists of dryland broadacre cropping (such as wheat and other cereals), rotational grazing, as well as irrigated horticulture closer to the Murray River.

Run by the proponent AGRIPROVE SOLUTIONS CO NO.2 PTY LTD, this project aims to increase carbon in the soil by applying nutrients to the land in the form of a synthetic or non-synthetic fertiliser. This targeted activity is designed to address a material deficiency in the soil, which helps improve overall soil health, increase plant biomass, and ultimately drive greater carbon sequestration. It is publicly listed among other Agriprove initiatives on platforms like carbonFAIR and the Carbon Eyes ACCU register.
