Campbell Carbon Project 2

Project Information:

Campbell Carbon Project 2 is a soil carbon project located in the Central West region of New South Wales, approximately 30km north of Orange, spanning the Dubbo Regional and Cabonne Shire local government areas. It was registered in August 2024 and covers 160.87 hectares.

Soil carbon projects under the Measurement and Models methodology involve storing carbon in agricultural soils by implementing new or materially different land management practices. Proponents must establish a baseline through rigorous soil sampling and use measurements and models to estimate the increases in soil organic carbon resulting from their new activities.

The Central West region is a traditional mixed farming area known for sheep and cattle grazing as well as broadacre cropping. The area experiences moderate, variable rainfall averaging between 500mm and 800mm annually, and the soils are predominantly red-brown earths (Chromosols) and clay loams.

This project was set up to increase carbon in the soil by re-establishing or rejuvenating pasture through seeding and pasture cropping. It also involves altering the stocking rate, duration, or intensity of grazing to promote soil vegetation cover and improve overall soil health. The project is managed by Agriprove, a major developer of soil carbon projects in Australia, and has a nominated permanence period of 25 years. It sits alongside an adjacent carbon project, Campbell Carbon Project 1, forming part of a broader carbon farming portfolio for the property.
