Mossvale Soil Carbon Project

Project Information:
The Mossvale Soil Carbon Project is a soil carbon sequestration project located on the "Mossvale" property near The Summit, approximately 15km northeast of Stanthorpe in the Southern Downs region of Queensland. Registered on November 20, 2024, the project covers a substantial area of 1,612 hectares. The property is operated by Dovara Pty Ltd and is primarily used for cattle grazing, specifically producing backgrounder heifers.
This project operates under the 2021 Soil Carbon methodology, which credits landholders for increasing Soil Organic Carbon (SOC) stocks. To achieve this, the project proponent alters land management practices, such as changing stocking rates, grazing duration, or intensity, to encourage better vegetation cover and soil health. By increasing the amount of carbon stored in the soil, the project generates Australian Carbon Credit Units (ACCUs) while potentially improving the productivity of the pasture.
The surrounding Granite Belt region is distinct from much of Queensland due to its high altitude and cool temperate climate. The area typically receives an annual rainfall of approximately 750mm to 800mm. As the name suggests, the local environment is dominated by granitic soils, which are often sandy, well-draining, and naturally lower in fertility. Market listings for the property's livestock have noted the presence of unfertilized pastures with African Lovegrass, highlighting the potential for soil improvement activities to enhance both carbon sequestration and carrying capacity.
The project is supported by Carbon Link Operations, a service provider specializing in soil carbon projects. The proponent, Dovara Pty Ltd, markets cattle from the property through online platforms like AuctionsPlus, demonstrating an active integration of carbon farming with commercial beef production.
