Rocky Springs Carbon Project 2

Project Information:

Rocky Springs Carbon Project 2 is a soil carbon sequestration project located in the North Burnett region of Queensland, approximately 45km west of Eidsvold and Mundubbera. Registered in July 2025, the project covers a project area of 347 hectares on the "Rocky Springs" pastoral station, situated near the Auburn River National Park.

The North Burnett region is a significant hub for beef cattle grazing and fodder cropping. The local environment is characterized by a sub-tropical climate with a distinct wet season in summer and a median annual rainfall of approximately 700mm. The terrain in this district often features sandy loam to clay loam soils, which can be susceptible to nutrient rundown but are highly responsive to improved pasture management.

Operating under the Estimation of Soil Organic Carbon Sequestration using Measurement and Models (2021) methodology, the project aims to increase soil organic carbon levels through targeted land management activities. These activities include altering stocking rates and grazing intensity to promote ground cover, as well as rejuvenating pastures through seeding. By improving soil health and vegetation density, the project seeks to sequester carbon dioxide from the atmosphere into the soil profile, generating Australian Carbon Credit Units (ACCUs) over the project's crediting period.
