Project Information:

FPC 2024 CP1 is a plantation forestry project located in the Shire of Boyup Brook, Western Australia. The project is situated near the locality of Wilga, approximately 30km north of the town of Boyup Brook and 40km southeast of Collie. Registered on May 16, 2024, the project covers a significant area of 1,191 hectares within the state's established timber growing region.

The project operates under the Carbon Credits (Carbon Farming Initiative, Plantation Forestry) Methodology Determination 2022. Specifically, it falls under Schedule 1 activities, which involve establishing a new plantation forest on land that has not held native or plantation forest for at least seven years. Unlike environmental plantings which are permanent, this method allows for commercial harvesting; credits are issued based on the long-term average carbon stocks sequestered over the plantation's rotation cycle.

The region is defined by a Mediterranean climate with high annual rainfall (averaging over 700mm), providing ideal conditions for commercial forestry. The terrain typically consists of the Darling Plateau's characteristic lateritic gravels and loams, which support both the native jarrah-marri forests and extensive pine plantations found in the area.

This project is part of the Western Australian Government's $350 million "Softwood Plantation Investment Program," managed by the Forest Products Commission. The initiative aims to plant up to 50 million pine trees to secure the state's future timber supply for construction while contributing to the state's net-zero 2050 targets.
