Flinders Carbon Project 2
ERF192497
Project Information:
Flinders Carbon Project 2 is a soil carbon sequestration project located in the semi-arid Millewa region of North West Victoria, approximately 75km west of the regional city of Mildura. The project was registered on August 23, 2024, and covers an area of roughly 197 hectares. The site falls within the Mildura Rural City local government area, a region characterized by dryland cropping and grazing operations.
The project operates under the Carbon Credits (Carbon Farming Initiative, Estimation of Soil Organic Carbon Sequestration using Measurement and Models) Methodology Determination 2021. This methodology rewards landholders for increasing soil organic carbon levels through improved management practices. The specific activities for this project include altering grazing stocking rates and durations to improve vegetation cover, as well as establishing and maintaining permanent pasture on land that was previously cropped or fallow.
Environmentally, the region typically experiences low annual rainfall and features solonised brown soils or calcareous earths, common to the Mallee landscape. These sandy-loam soil types are often targeted for soil health improvements to combat wind erosion and increase moisture retention. The project is managed by Agriprove Solutions, a prominent developer in the Australian soil carbon sector.
