Lockayshae Carbon (Revoked)

Project Information:

Lockayshae Carbon (Revoked) is an environmental planting project located on the Lower Eyre Peninsula in South Australia, approximately 35 kilometers northwest of Port Lincoln. Situated near the locality of Wanilla, the project falls within the District Council of Lower Eyre Peninsula. The project was registered in March 2024 and covered a total area of 92.34 hectares.

The project operated under the Reforestation by Environmental or Mallee Plantings-FullCAM methodology. This method involves establishing permanent plantings of native tree and shrub species on land previously used for agricultural purposes, such as grazing or cropping, for at least five years. To generate Australian Carbon Credit Units (ACCUs), the plantings must be managed to achieve forest cover, typically defined as reaching a height of at least 2 meters and a canopy cover of 20%.

The Lower Eyre Peninsula region is characterized by a Mediterranean climate with winter-dominant rainfall, generally considered one of the higher rainfall agricultural zones in South Australia (receiving approx. 500–600mm annually). The landscape is predominantly utilized for broadacre cropping (wheat, canola, barley) and livestock grazing. Soils in this area are often ironstone gravels or sandy loams, which support both productive agriculture and native vegetation such as Sugar Gum (Eucalyptus cladocalyx) and Drooping Sheoak (Allocasuarina verticillata).

The project was voluntarily revoked on October 1, 2025, under Section 30 of the Carbon Credits (Carbon Farming Initiative) Rule 2015. A Section 30 revocation typically occurs when a proponent chooses to withdraw the project from the scheme, often due to changes in land management strategy or property ownership. The proponent, Lockayshae Pty Ltd, appears to be a local entity actively involved in the community, appearing as a sponsor for regional sporting organizations on the Eyre Peninsula.
