Rocky Springs Carbon Project 1

Project Information:
Rocky Springs Carbon Project 1 is a soil carbon sequestration project located in the North Burnett region of Queensland, approximately 55 kilometers west of the town of Mundubbera. The project was registered on July 21, 2025, and covers a project area of roughly 211 hectares. The surrounding region, historically associated with the 'Rocky Springs' pastoral station, is predominantly utilized for beef cattle grazing and is situated near the Auburn River.
The project operates under the Carbon Credits (Carbon Farming Initiative, Estimation of Soil Organic Carbon Sequestration using Measurement and Models) Methodology Determination 2021. This methodology allows landholders to earn Australian Carbon Credit Units (ACCUs) by measuring increases in soil organic carbon stocks over time. Standard requirements involve establishing a baseline of soil carbon through physical sampling and then implementing new management activities to sequester additional carbon.
Environmentally, the North Burnett region is classified as having a sub-tropical to semi-arid climate with rainfall that is summer-dominant and highly variable. The area supports grazing on soils that are typically a mix of sandy loams and clays, which can sometimes be sodic or prone to erosion if not carefully managed. The project's specific activities involve re-establishing or rejuvenating pastures through seeding and altering grazing mechanics, such as changing stocking rates or duration, to improve ground cover and soil health.
The proponent, AgriProve Solutions Co No.2 Pty Ltd, is a prominent developer in the Australian soil carbon sector. By focusing on pasture cropping and grazing intensity, the project aims to demonstrate how active landscape management can simultaneously support agricultural productivity and carbon abatement.
