Liscombe Pools Soil Carbon Project

Project Information:
The Liscombe Pools Soil Carbon Project is a soil carbon sequestration initiative located on the "Liscombe Pools" property, situated approximately 25 kilometers southeast of Canowindra and north of Cowra in the Central West region of New South Wales. Registered in March 2025, the project covers 1,105 hectares, effectively encompassing the entirety of the 2,750-acre historic grazing property. The area is positioned within a valley between Canowindra and Mandurama, a region characterized by undulating slopes and a temperate climate with reliable rainfall, traditionally supporting mixed farming enterprises of sheep, cattle, and cropping.
The project operates under the 2021 Soil Carbon (Measurement and Models) methodology, which credits landholders for measurable increases in soil organic carbon stocks. To achieve this, the proponent, Wendy Bowman, is implementing changes to land management practices, specifically altering stocking rates and grazing intensity to improve ground cover and soil health. Public records indicate the property has a history of engaging with regenerative agriculture principles; it has previously hosted "Keep in Touch" field days for Resource Consulting Services (RCS), a leading provider of holistic grazing management training.
Geologically, the site is notable for the "Liscombe Pools Limestone" formation, suggesting the presence of fertile, well-drained soils often associated with limestone-derived landscapes in the Molong Volcanic Belt. In addition to its agricultural function, the land holds environmental significance, with parts of the estate designated as the Liscombe Pools Wildlife Refuge. The proponent, Wendy Bowman (distinct from the late Hunter Valley environmentalist of the same name), is a recognised figure in local agriculture, having been featured in NSW Rural Women's Network publications for her role as a farm manager and advocate for professional education in farming.
