Sullivan's Gap Reforestation Project
ERF188453
Project Information:
Sullivan's Gap Reforestation Project is an environmental planting project located at Sullivan’s Gap, approximately 16 kilometers north of Bega in the Bega Valley Shire, New South Wales. It was registered in January 2024 and covers a small area of 3.11 hectares.
The project operates under the Reforestation by Environmental or Mallee Plantings methodology, which requires the establishment of permanent native tree and shrub species. These plantings must be capable of reaching a height of at least 2 meters and achieving 20% crown cover to meet the definition of forest cover. The carbon abatement is calculated using the Full Carbon Accounting Model (FullCAM), which estimates carbon stocks based on the specific location and management activities.
The surrounding Bega Valley region is historically renowned for dairy and beef cattle grazing, as well as forestry operations in the nearby state forests. The area typically experiences a temperate climate with moderate to high rainfall, averaging between 800mm and 900mm annually. The soils in this locality are often derived from the Bega Batholith, characterized as granitic sandy loams or texture-contrast soils, which are well-suited to the native mixed-species vegetation being restored.
Given the project's small size of just over 3 hectares, it likely functions as a strategic shelterbelt or a targeted biodiversity corridor within a larger agricultural property, rather than a whole-farm conversion.
