Project Information:

The Seneca Hills Forestry Project is a plantation forestry project located approximately 15km north-east of Gatton in the Lockyer Valley region of South East Queensland. Registered in October 2023, the project covers an area of roughly 67 hectares. The Lockyer Valley is widely recognized as "Australia's Salad Bowl" due to its rich agricultural output, though the region also supports cattle grazing and forestry operations in its upland areas.

This project operates under the 2022 Plantation Forestry methodology, specifically focusing on the establishment of a new plantation forest. Unlike permanent environmental plantings, this method allows for commercial harvesting of wood products. The project generates carbon credits by sequestering carbon in the trees and root systems as they grow, accounting for the emissions released during harvest events.

The region typically experiences a sub-tropical climate with an average annual rainfall of around 780mm, though it can be highly variable. While the valley floor is famous for its fertile black alluvial soils, the surrounding hills and forestry areas often feature sandstone-derived soils or clays suitable for timber production. The project has a nominated permanence period of 25 years.
