Landari Khancoban 2023

Project Information:
Landari Khancoban 2023 is a Plantation forestry project located approximately 35 to 45 kilometres southeast of Glen Innes in the Northern Tablelands region of New South Wales. It was registered on January 19, 2024, and covers an active area of 553.48 hectares.
Plantation forestry projects under this methodology sequester carbon by establishing and maintaining new plantation forests specifically for the commercial harvesting of wood products. Standard requirements for this method typically dictate that the planting area must not have hosted a forest for a specified baseline period prior to project commencement, and the trees must be planted and managed at densities that maximize both long-term carbon abatement and commercial timber production.
The Northern Tablelands and Glen Innes district is heavily utilized for intensive beef and sheep grazing, alongside some localized forestry and cropping operations. The environment is characterized as a high-rainfall zone, typically receiving between 800mm and 900mm of average annual rainfall. The local soil profile boasts a highly productive blend of deep basalt, granite, and loamy trap soils, which provide excellent fertility and moisture retention for dense vegetative growth.
Interestingly, the project footprint directly aligns with "Khancoban", a well-regarded 703-hectare historic grazing holding situated near Moggs Swamp on Pinkett Road. Prior to being converted for plantation forestry, the property was highly developed as a premier satellite breeding and backgrounding asset for the Ascot Angus and Charolais seedstock enterprise. This land-use transition reflects a growing trend in the region where high-yield pasturelands are being acquired by carbon and conservation developers like Landari Pty Ltd to generate Australian Carbon Credit Units (ACCUs) alongside future commercial timber revenues.
