Landari Khancoban 2023

Project Information:
Landari Khancoban 2023 is a plantation forestry project located approximately 35km southeast of Glen Innes in the Northern Tablelands of New South Wales. Despite the project name referencing "Khancoban", a town in the Snowy Mountains, the Clean Energy Regulator’s records confirm the project area sits within the Glen Innes Severn Shire Council. Registered in January 2024, the project covers roughly 553 hectares of land in a region traditionally utilized for grazing and mixed agriculture.
The project operates under the Carbon Credits (Carbon Farming Initiative, Plantation Forestry) Methodology Determination 2022. This methodology allows for the establishment of new plantation forests or the conversion of existing short-rotation plantations to long-rotation forests. Unlike environmental plantings which are permanent and not harvested, this project activity involves establishing a new plantation specifically for the commercial harvesting of wood products, sequestering carbon in the trees and wood products over time.
The Northern Tablelands region is characterized by a temperate climate with relatively high rainfall, often exceeding 800mm annually, making it well-suited for forestry. The soils in the area are typically fertile, derived from basalt and granite, which supports robust timber growth. The proponent, Landari Pty Ltd, is an Armidale-based developer specializing in carbon and biodiversity offsets, often focusing on permanent vegetation and plantation activities.
