Beddall Carbon Project 8

Project Information:
Beddall Carbon Project 8 is a Soil Organic Carbon project located approximately 25 kilometers southwest of Moura in the Banana Shire region of Central Queensland. Registered in September 2025, the project covers a land area of roughly 227 hectares. The surrounding Dawson Valley region is a significant agricultural hub, primarily utilized for beef cattle grazing and broadacre cropping within the productive Brigalow Belt.
The project operates under the 2021 Soil Carbon Methodology (Estimation of Soil Organic Carbon Sequestration using Measurement and Models). This framework allows landholders to earn Australian Carbon Credit Units (ACCUs) by sequestering carbon in agricultural soils. To achieve this, the project involves establishing a baseline of soil carbon stocks through physical sampling, followed by the implementation of new management activities designed to increase those stocks. For Beddall Carbon Project 8, these activities include altering stocking rates and grazing intensity to promote vegetation cover, alongside the introduction of legume species into pasture systems to enhance soil nitrogen and biomass.
Environmentally, the site is situated in a sub-tropical, semi-arid climate zone with a mean annual rainfall of approximately 600mm to 700mm, which is heavily summer-dominant. The landscape in this part of the Banana Shire is typically characterized by fertile Brigalow soils, specifically Vertosols (cracking clays). These grey and brown clays are highly capable of holding water and supporting nutrient-dense pasture, making them well-suited for regenerative grazing practices aimed at building soil carbon.
An interesting aspect of this project is its designation as "Project 8," which indicates it is part of a larger aggregation of carbon projects likely managed by the same landholder. This segmented approach is a common strategy used by the proponent, Agriprove, to manage baselining costs and credit issuance timelines across large grazing properties. Agriprove is currently the largest developer of soil carbon projects in Australia, managing the majority of projects registered under this specific methodology.
