Nambrok Soil Carbon Project

Project Information:

The Nambrok Soil Carbon Project is a soil carbon sequestration project located in Nambrok, Victoria, approximately 25 kilometers west of Sale and 10 kilometers southeast of Rosedale. Registered on March 18, 2024, the project covers a substantial area of 924 hectares within the Wellington Shire. The project is managed by Greenwald Investments Pty Ltd as trustee for the Killara Family Trust.

The project operates under the 2021 Soil Carbon methodology, which rewards landholders for increasing soil organic carbon levels through changes in land management. Specifically, this project aims to boost carbon stocks by applying synthetic or non-synthetic fertilizers to address material nutrient deficiencies in the soil. This activity is designed to stimulate plant growth and root biomass, thereby sequestering more carbon into the soil profile. The project's crediting period runs for 25 years, concluding in March 2049.

Regionally, Nambrok is situated in the Gippsland plains, an area traditionally utilized for dryland grazing, dairying, and increasingly for cropping. The environment is characterized by a temperate climate with moderate rainfall, typically averaging between 600mm and 700mm annually, though it can be variable. The soils in this part of the Macalister region are generally described as clay loams or heavy clays, which can be highly productive when nutrient balances are managed effectively, a core focus of this project's stated activity.
