Seedling Asset Holdings Human Induced Regeneration Project

Project Information:

The Seedling Asset Holdings Human Induced Regeneration Project is a carbon farming initiative located in the Shire of Balonne, Queensland. Geographically, the project is situated approximately 100km southeast of Charleville and northwest of Bollon, placing it within the Mulga Lands bioregion. Registered in September 2023, the project covers an area of 2,426 hectares. The region is traditionally utilized for pastoral activities, specifically sheep and cattle grazing, which characterizes the surrounding land use.

The project operates under the Human-Induced Regeneration (HIR) methodology. This method generates carbon credits by allowing native forests to regenerate on land where vegetation had previously been suppressed for at least 10 years, typically due to agricultural activities. Key project activities involve the cessation of mechanical or chemical clearing and the active management of grazing pressure to facilitate the return of permanent even-aged native forests.

Environmentally, the site is located in a semi-arid zone with an average annual rainfall of approximately 450-500mm. The soil composition in this area of the Mulga Lands is typically dominated by red earths (Kandosols), which are sandy to loamy and naturally support Mulga (Acacia aneura) vegetation communities. While Seedling Asset Holdings Pty Ltd is the proponent and South Pole Australia is listed as a participant, public records indicate that Gondwana Carbon has also been involved in the assessment and management of the project.
