Berawinnia Downs Regeneration Project

Project Information:

The Berawinnia Downs Regeneration Project is a Human-Induced Regeneration (HIR) project located on the Berawinnia Downs pastoral station in the remote "Corner Country" of Far West New South Wales. Situated approximately 75km northwest of Wanaaring and within the Bourke Shire Council area, the property spans over 27,000 hectares. This region is historically significant as part of the legendary "Cattle King" Sir Sidney Kidman's pastoral empire, traditionally used for extensive cattle and sheep grazing.

Registered in September 2023, the project operates under the HIR methodology, which involves regenerating permanent even-aged native forests by suppressing negative drivers such as excessive grazing. By managing the timing and extent of livestock grazing, the project aims to allow suppressed vegetation, likely Mulga (Acacia aneura) woodlands and native shrubs common to the area, to recover and reach forest potential. The project area lies in a hot semi-arid climate zone, characterized by low, variable rainfall (averaging roughly 250-300mm annually) and soils that typically consist of sandy red earths, clay pans, and stony desert pavement typical of the Bulloo and Paroo River catchments.

The project is developed by Climate Revive Pty Ltd in partnership with Corporate Carbon Advisory. Climate Revive, led by environmental scientist Khory Hancock (known as the "Environmental Cowboy"), focuses on integrating carbon farming with regenerative agriculture to improve landscape health while maintaining productive land use.
