Landari Tasmanian Aggregation 2024

Project Information:

Landari Tasmanian Aggregation 2024 is a Plantation Forestry carbon project located near Frankford, approximately 35 kilometers northwest of Launceston in Tasmania. Registered on October 21, 2024, the project covers a relatively small area of 37.16 hectares. The site sits within the West Tamar Council region, an area characterized by a mix of forestry, grazing, and agricultural land use.

The project operates under the Carbon Credits (Carbon Farming Initiative, Plantation Forestry) Methodology Determination 2022. Specifically, it involves the "avoided conversion" activity. This means the project proponents have committed to maintaining an existing plantation forest that was otherwise at risk of being harvested and converted into non-forested land, such as pasture for grazing or cropping. By retaining the trees, the carbon stored in the biomass is preserved rather than being released into the atmosphere, allowing the forest to continue sequestering carbon over time.

Environmentally, the Frankford and West Tamar region typically experiences a cool temperate climate with reliable rainfall, generally averaging between 800mm and 1000mm annually. The soils in this productive forestry belt are often Ferrosols, deep, well-drained, red volcanic clay soils known for their high fertility, or Podzols in the sandier stretches, both of which support vigorous tree growth.

The proponent, Landari Pty Ltd, is a specialized forestry and carbon consultancy based in Australia. The use of "Aggregation" in the project title suggests this site may be part of a broader portfolio where multiple smaller plantation properties are bundled to streamline management and administrative costs under the Australian Carbon Credit Unit (ACCU) scheme. Landari is known for managing numerous forestry projects across Tasmania, leveraging their expertise to help private landholders access carbon markets.
