HPUT Carbon Project Schedule 1

HPUT Carbon Project Schedule 1 is a plantation forestry project located near Andover, approximately 15km south-east of Oatlands in the Southern Midlands region of Tasmania. It was registered in November 2023 and covers an area of 2,142.47 hectares.

The Plantation Forestry methodology allows projects to earn carbon credits by establishing new plantation forests, converting short-rotation plantations to long-rotation cycles, or maintaining existing plantations that would otherwise be converted to non-forested land. Standard requirements dictate that the forest must be established and maintained specifically for the commercial harvesting of wood products. This specific project achieves carbon sequestration through two avenues: establishing a new commercial plantation forest and converting an existing short-rotation plantation to a long-rotation cycle.

The Southern Midlands region of Tasmania is predominantly known for sheep and cattle grazing, alongside commercial forestry operations. The area experiences a lower, temperate rainfall profile compared to the rest of the state, averaging between 400-600mm annually. Soils in this catchment are highly varied and are typically derived from dolerite, mudstone, and sandstone, presenting mostly as podzolic and brown soils.

An interesting note regarding this project is that it underwent a variation of proponent in May 2025, transferring from the original proponent, Eastern Tiers Pty Ltd, to Fife AMI 2303 Inglewood Road Pty Limited (as Trustee for Fife AMI 2303 Inglewood Road Trust). The new corporate entity is specifically named after the project property's physical location along Inglewood Road in Andover. The project operations are also supported by the participant The Carbon Farming Foundation Ltd.
