Angle Creek Soil Carbon Project

Project Information:
The Angle Creek Soil Carbon Project is a soil carbon sequestration project located on the "Angle Creek" pastoral station, approximately 170km northwest of Rockhampton in Central Queensland. Registered in March 2024, the project covers a substantial area of 4,098 hectares. The property is situated within the Central Highlands region, an area predominantly used for extensive beef cattle grazing.
This project operates under the 2021 Soil Carbon Methodology, which rewards landholders for increasing soil organic carbon levels through improved management practices. The specific activities for Angle Creek involve altering the stocking rate, duration, and intensity of grazing, often referred to as time-controlled or regenerative grazing, to promote vegetation cover and soil health. By increasing ground cover and rest periods for pastures, the project aims to sequester atmospheric carbon into the soil profile.
The environment in this region of Central Queensland is characterized by a sub-tropical to semi-arid climate with highly variable rainfall. The landscape typically features a mix of "softwood scrub" valleys with fertile clay soils (often Vertosols) and harder "rosewood ridges" with gravelly or loamy soils. The project proponent, Balcomba Holdings Pty Ltd, is associated with the Mactaggart family, who manage Angle Creek in conjunction with their home property, "Balcomba," located to the south near Duaringa. The project is facilitated by Carbon Link, a major Australian soil carbon developer and aggregator.
