Project Information:

Landari Blackwood Creek 1 2022 is a plantation forestry project located in the rural locality of Blackwood Creek, Tasmania, approximately 30 kilometers southwest of Longford. Registered in December 2023, the project covers 57 hectares of land situated at the foothills of the Great Western Tiers. The region is traditionally characterized by a mix of forestry and agricultural activities, particularly livestock grazing, utilizing the area's cool temperate climate and reliable moisture levels.

The project operates under the Carbon Credits (Carbon Farming Initiative, Plantation Forestry) Methodology Determination 2022. Specifically, it focuses on "avoided conversion," a project activity designed to prevent the clearing of established plantation forests for alternative land uses, such as agriculture. By committing to re-establish and maintain the plantation for commercial harvesting, rather than converting the land to non-forested pasture or cropping, the project ensures the carbon stored in the trees remains sequestered. This activity (Schedule 3 of the methodology) credits the difference in carbon stocks between the continuing plantation and the "business-as-usual" scenario where the trees would have been removed.

Environmentally, the Blackwood Creek area benefits from moderate to high rainfall, averaging between 700mm and 950mm annually, which supports robust tree growth. The local terrain typically features soils derived from dolerite, often manifesting as clay loams or stony gravels that are well-suited to forestry but can present limitations for intensive cropping. The project is managed by Landari Pty Ltd, a developer founded by experienced forestry executives, which specializes in integrating carbon offsets with traditional timber production across Tasmania and mainland Australia.
