Project Information:
Landari Uplands 1 2022 is a Plantation Forestry project located in the Northern Midlands local government area, approximately 40km southeast of Launceston in Tasmania. Registered in November 2023, the project covers 139.72 hectares.
The Plantation Forestry methodology allows projects to earn Australian Carbon Credit Units (ACCUs) by establishing new commercial plantation forests, converting short-rotation to long-rotation plantations, or maintaining existing plantations to avoid conversion to non-forested land. Standard requirements typically dictate that the plantation must achieve or maintain forest cover, defined as trees reaching at least 2 metres in height and providing a minimum of 20% crown cover. This specific project generates carbon abatement through the avoided conversion of an existing or recently harvested plantation forest, alongside the establishment of a new plantation forest.
The Northern Midlands region is predominantly known for diverse agricultural activities, including livestock grazing, cropping, and commercial forestry operations. The area generally experiences moderate rainfall, with inland midland areas typically receiving less than 600mm annually, while eastern parts can receive up to 950mm. Soils in this undulating landscape often feature sandy-clay profiles and surface dolerite.
An interesting note about this project is that it is managed by Landari Pty Ltd, a developer focused on carbon and biodiversity offsets using permanent vegetation. In June 2024, the project underwent a variation to amend the listed project areas. The project has nominated a 25-year permanence period to maintain its sequestered carbon.
