Landari Uplands 1 2022

Project Information:
Landari Uplands 1 2022 is a plantation forestry project located in the Northern Midlands region of Tasmania, approximately 40km southeast of Launceston. It was registered in November 2023 and currently covers 139.72 hectares following a project area variation in June 2024.
Projects operating under the Plantation Forestry methodology sequester carbon by establishing new plantation forests, converting short-rotation to long-rotation plantations, or avoiding the conversion of existing or recently harvested plantation forests to non-forested land. The standard requirements for this project type mandate the maintenance of the forest for commercial wood production, and proving that the land would otherwise be at risk of reversion to alternative agricultural land uses.
The Northern Midlands area is primarily known for its extensive fine wool sheep grazing, alongside irrigated cropping on fertile river flats and commercial forestry operations at higher elevations. The region typically experiences a dry, cool, subhumid climate and records some of the lowest rainfall in Tasmania. Soils in the area are diverse, generally featuring sandy and gravelly loams on the plains, and transitioning to Permian mudstone, tertiary basalt, and dolerite-derived soils in the surrounding hills and valleys.
This project specifically sequesters carbon by avoiding the conversion of a recently harvested plantation forest back to pasture, continuing its use as an active plantation, and establishing new forestry areas. On May 8, 2026, the project underwent a variation to officially add Robert Downie as a participant alongside LANDARI PTY LTD. Robert Downie and LANDARI PTY LTD are highly active proponents in the Australian carbon market, managing a substantial portfolio of similar plantation and environmental planting projects across Tasmania, Victoria, and Western Australia.
