Humphreys Carbon Project 5

Project Information:
Humphreys Carbon Project 5 is a soil carbon sequestration project located in the Central Wheatbelt region of Western Australia, approximately 30km west of the town of Koorda and 50km east of Wongan Hills. The project was registered on June 18, 2025, and covers a project area of 401.6 hectares.
The project operates under the Carbon Credits (Carbon Farming Initiative, Estimation of Soil Organic Carbon Sequestration using Measurement and Models) Methodology Determination 2021. This methodology credits the increases in soil organic carbon resulting from specific land management activities. For this project, the primary activity involves applying synthetic or non-synthetic fertilizers to address material soil deficiencies, thereby promoting plant growth and increasing carbon storage in the soil profile. The 2021 methodology requires baseline soil sampling and subsequent monitoring to measure the net abatement relative to the baseline.
The Koorda region is characterized by a semi-arid Mediterranean climate with a winter-dominant rainfall pattern, typically receiving between 300mm and 350mm annually. The landscape is predominantly used for broadacre cropping (wheat, barley, canola) and sheep grazing. Soils in this area are commonly sandy loams, sandplains, and duplex soils (sand over clay), which can often benefit from targeted nutrient applications to overcome natural deficiencies and acidity constraints common in the Western Australian Wheatbelt.
The project is managed by Agriprove Solutions Co No.2 Pty Ltd, a prominent soil carbon project developer in Australia. The designation "Project 5" suggests this is part of a larger aggregation of landholdings or a multi-stage registration for the Humphreys family or entity in the region.
