Honeysuckle Farm Project

Project Information:
Honeysuckle Farm Project is a soil carbon sequestration initiative located in the Tallangatta Valley, approximately 25km southeast of Tallangatta in Northeast Victoria. Registered on October 20, 2023, the project spans 195 hectares within the Towong Shire, a region characterised by its lush, high-rainfall river valleys and rolling hills. The project area is situated near Honeysuckle Road, which runs through a district well-regarded for mixed farming and livestock grazing, particularly beef and dairy cattle.
The project operates under the 2021 Soil Carbon methodology (Estimation of Soil Organic Carbon Sequestration using Measurement and Models). This method credits landholders for increasing soil organic carbon stocks through new or materially different management activities. For Honeysuckle Farm, the specific activity involves altering the stocking rate, duration, or intensity of grazing. By optimizing grazing pressure, the proponent aims to improve vegetation cover and soil health, thereby enhancing the land's ability to sequester carbon from the atmosphere.
The environmental conditions in the Tallangatta Valley are generally favourable for soil carbon projects, with reliable rainfall and fertile alluvial or clay-loam soils that respond well to improved pasture management. The project has nominated a 100-year permanence period, indicating a long-term commitment to maintaining the stored carbon.
