Project Information:

AKD-4 Vic 2022: Hanna is a Plantation Forestry project located in the Golden Plains Shire, approximately 25km south-west of Ballarat in Victoria. It was registered in August 2023 and covers 173.01 hectares.

Plantation Forestry projects involve sequestering carbon by establishing a new plantation forest or converting an existing short-rotation plantation forest to a long-rotation forest for the commercial harvesting of wood products.

The Golden Plains region is characterised by wide volcanic plains and is well known for agricultural land uses, predominantly grazing, broadacre winter cropping, and intensive animal industries. The area experiences a relatively dry, temperate climate with limited to moderate annual rainfall. Soils in the region are typically basalt-derived clays, sodosols, and chromosols.

This project sequesters carbon by converting an existing short-rotation plantation forest to a long-rotation plantation forest to be managed for commercial harvesting. The project proponent, Associated Kiln Driers Pty Ltd (trading as AKD Softwoods), is a 100% Australian-owned integrated forestry and timber processing company founded in 1955 that manages over 12,000 hectares of radiata pine plantations across the country. The project originally operated under the participant name Landari Pty Ltd before a variation was made in November 2023 to Associated Kiln Driers Pty Ltd, followed by a project name variation from Landari AKD-4 Vic 2022: Hanna to its current name in March 2026.
