Gate 46 Pty Ltd Biogas Capture and Destruction - Project 1 is an aggregated animal effluent management project operating across multiple agricultural regions in Queensland, New South Wales, Victoria, and South Australia. Registered on July 14, 2023, the project is facilitated by Green Energy Trading Pty Ltd as the proponent, utilizing technology and aggregation services provided by Gate 46 Pty Ltd. Because this is an aggregated project, it does not occupy a single site; instead, it encompasses activities at approximately 12 participating farms (reportedly 10 dairy farms and 2 piggeries) located in key agricultural districts including the Hunter Valley (NSW), Goulburn Valley (VIC), Darling Downs (QLD), and the Limestone Coast (SA).

The project operates under the Carbon Credits (Carbon Farming Initiative, Animal Effluent Management) Methodology Determination 2019. This methodology generates carbon credits by capturing methane emissions that would otherwise be released into the atmosphere from decomposing animal manure. The project activities involve replacing open anaerobic lagoons with engineered, covered biodigesters. These systems capture biogas (methane) produced by the effluent, which is then combusted, either flared or used to generate renewable electricity and heat for on-farm use.

Given the widespread nature of the project, the environmental conditions vary significantly across the sites. Participating properties in regions like Dungog (NSW) and Millicent (SA) typically experience higher rainfall and utilize clay or loam soils suitable for intensive grazing. In contrast, sites in the Goulburn Valley (VIC) and Lockyer Valley (QLD) often rely on irrigation systems within semi-arid or sub-tropical climates to support high-density dairy operations. Gate 46 employs a "Design, Build, Own, Operate, Maintain" (DBOOM) model to remove financial barriers for farmers, allowing them to benefit from reduced energy costs and improved waste management compliance without upfront capital expenditure.
