Project Information:

Gate 46 Pty Ltd Biogas Capture and Destruction - Project 1 (Revoked) is an animal effluent management project located at various agricultural sites spanning New South Wales, Queensland, South Australia, and Victoria, rather than a single specific landmark. It was registered on July 14, 2023. Because it is an aggregated project spanning multiple properties, the exact total project area size and specific coordinates are not publicly available. However, the regional land use across these participating sites is dedicated to intensive livestock farming, specifically dairies and piggeries.

Animal effluent management projects involve destroying methane generated from animal waste that would otherwise be released into the atmosphere. Standard requirements for this methodology dictate that proponents must capture the biogas from effluent storage, often by replacing open anaerobic lagoons with covered, engineered biodigesters, and combust it either through flaring or by generating electricity.

Because the project encompasses sites across four different Australian states, the environmental conditions vary widely. However, intensive dairy and piggery operations of this scale are typically situated in high rainfall or heavily irrigated agricultural zones. The soils in these regions generally consist of productive loams and heavy clays capable of supporting high-yield pastures, effluent management infrastructure, and feed crops.

This initiative was developed by the project proponent, Green Energy Trading Pty Ltd, in partnership with Gate 46 Pty Ltd to aggregate the carbon emissions reductions of 10 dairy farms and 2 piggeries. This aggregated model was utilised because installing expensive engineered biodigesters is often not economically viable for individual farms to undertake independently. On May 7, 2026, the project was voluntarily revoked under section 30 of the Carbon Farming Initiative (CFI) Rule, which is a standard procedure when proponents elect to deregister a project.
