Paradise Regeneration Project (Revoked)

Project Information:
Paradise Regeneration Project (Revoked) was a Human-Induced Regeneration (HIR) project located on "Paradise Station," approximately 20km east of the township of Jundah in Central West Queensland. Registered in September 2023, the project covered a significant area of nearly 29,000 hectares within the Barcoo Shire. However, the project was voluntarily revoked under Section 30 of the CFI Rule on January 12, 2026, less than three years after its registration.
The project operated under the Human-Induced Regeneration methodology, which is designed to sequester carbon by regenerating native forests on land where vegetation has been suppressed, typically by livestock. The primary activity for this project involved managing the timing and extent of grazing to allow native vegetation to recover and reach forest cover status. As an HIR project, it would have been required to demonstrate that the land had been cleared or suppressed for at least 10 years prior to the project's commencement.
The Jundah region is part of Queensland's "Channel Country," known for its hot, semi-arid climate and variable rainfall, averaging roughly 250–350mm annually. The landscape in this specific area typically consists of red earth soils and clay pans (Vertosols) supporting vegetation such as Mulga (Acacia aneura) and Mitchell grass. The primary land use in the surrounding Barcoo Shire is sheep and cattle grazing, which aligns with the project's goal of integrating carbon farming with pastoral operations.
The proponent, Doreen Shirley Pitman, is a long-term local pastoralist associated with the Paradise property. The revocation of the project in early 2026 was a "voluntary revocation," suggesting the proponent chose to exit the scheme, potentially due to property planning changes, succession, or a reassessment of the project's viability.
