Carrick Carbon Project 4

Project Information:

Carrick Carbon Project 4 is a soil carbon sequestration project located in the South Burnett region of Queensland, approximately 50km west of Kingaroy near the locality of Durong. Registered in July 2025, the project covers 142.95 hectares of agricultural land. The surrounding region is predominantly used for cattle grazing and cropping, situated in a transition zone between the fertile red volcanic soils of the Kingaroy plateau and the sandy loams of the western Burnett.

The project operates under the 2021 Soil Carbon methodology (Estimation of Soil Organic Carbon Sequestration using Measurement and Models). This method requires landholders to implement new management activities, such as altering stocking density, rotational grazing, or rejuvenating pastures, to increase the amount of carbon stored in the soil. These changes are measured against a baseline to generate Australian Carbon Credit Units (ACCUs) over a 25 or 100-year permanence period. Specifically, this project aims to increase soil carbon by adjusting grazing intensity and re-establishing pastures, likely using multi-species fodder crops to improve soil health and vegetation cover.

Environmental conditions in the Durong area are characterized by a sub-tropical, summer-dominant rainfall pattern, typically receiving between 600mm and 800mm annually. While the wider South Burnett is famous for its Ferrosols (red earths), the specific project location west of Kingaroy likely features sandy loams, Kandosols, or mixed clay soils common to the region's "forest country" grazing lands. The proponent, Agriprove, is a leading developer in this sector and often aggregates multiple project stages (e.g., Carrick 1, Carrick 2, Carrick 3) across large properties or portfolios.
