Wingfield Expansion - Veolia ResourceCo Alternative Fuels Diversion from Landfill Project (Revoked)

Project Information:
Wingfield Expansion - Veolia ResourceCo Alternative Fuels Diversion from Landfill Project (Revoked) was an alternative waste treatment project located in the industrial suburb of Wingfield, South Australia, approximately 13km north of the Adelaide central business district. Registered in June 2023, the project was designed to expand upon existing waste diversion activities at the facility but was voluntarily revoked in January 2025. The project operated within a heavy industrial zone, distinct from the agricultural land uses typical of carbon farming, such as grazing or cropping.
The project operated under the Alternative Waste Treatment methodology, which incentivizes the diversion of mixed solid waste, such as commercial, industrial, and demolition waste, away from landfills. By processing this waste into Processed Engineered Fuel (PEF), the facility prevents the generation of methane that would otherwise occur if the organic material decomposed in a landfill. This fuel substitute is then typically used in high-combustion facilities, such as cement kilns, effectively turning waste into an energy resource.
Regionally, the Wingfield area lies on the Adelaide Plains, characterized by a Mediterranean climate with moderate rainfall averaging around 400mm to 500mm annually. The soils in this district are naturally red-brown earths and clays, though the immediate project site consists of heavily modified industrial fill and coastal plain soils.
The facility itself is a well-known joint venture between Veolia and ResourceCo, established to supply fuel to the nearby Adelaide Brighton Cement (Adbri) plant. The revocation under Section 30 of the CFI Rule indicates the proponent voluntarily requested the project be cancelled. This specific "Expansion" project likely covered a new crediting period or capacity increase that the proponents decided not to pursue under the ACCU scheme at that time, despite the physical facility continuing its long-standing operations.
