Sustainability Ledger
ERF181486
Project Information:
Sustainability Ledger is an energy efficiency project managed by the proponent of the same name, based in Goulburn, NSW. While the project itself aggregates energy savings from various small businesses and households, meaning it operates across multiple dispersed sites rather than a single plot of land, the proponent's operations are centred in the Southern Tablelands region, approximately 90km north-east of Canberra and 195km south-west of Sydney. Registered in December 2023, the project focuses on reducing energy consumption through behavioural change strategies.
The project operates under the Aggregated Small Energy Users methodology. This framework allows a proponent to group together ("aggregate") a large number of small energy users, such as households or small businesses, and implement strategies to lower their electricity or gas usage. Unlike hardware-focused projects that rely solely on installing efficient appliances, this project emphasizes behaviour change, encouraging users to alter their daily habits to reduce waste. The methodology typically requires a statistical comparison between a "treatment group" (those participating in the project) and a "control group" to accurately calculate the emissions avoided.
The region surrounding the proponent's headquarters in Goulburn is traditionally defined by sheep grazing (particularly for fine wool) and cattle farming. The area experiences a temperate climate with cool winters and soils derived largely from granite and sedimentary rocks. However, as this is an energy usage project, the physical environmental conditions of Goulburn are less critical to the project's success than the effectiveness of the "HelloSustainability" program and other engagement strategies employed by the proponent to drive energy savings in the built environment.
