ActivAcre 2023 Eucalypt Plantations 1
ERF181455
Project Information:
ActivAcre 2023 Eucalypt Plantations 1 is a plantation forestry project located in the Central Coast Council region of Tasmania, approximately 25km inland and south of Ulverstone. It was registered in May 2023 and covers 75.60ha.
Plantation forestry projects sequester carbon by establishing and maintaining a new plantation forest for the commercial harvesting of wood products. Standard methodology requirements involve establishing trees at specific stocking densities and managing harvest cycles to ensure long-term carbon storage and sustainable timber yields over the project's nominated permanence period.
The inland Central Coast area of northern Tasmania is well known for both agriculture and forestry. The region is considered high rainfall and its rich, fertile soils are generally deep basalt and clay loams. Typical land uses in this surrounding area include dairy farming, cropping, grazing, and commercial timber operations.
This project is part of the ActivAcre Program, an initiative backed by global investment manager New Forests and managed locally by SFM Environmental Solutions. The program was set up to lease underutilized portions of farmland (typically 10-20% of a property) to establish long-rotation plantations. This model provides landowners with regular lease payments and on-farm environmental benefits, such as shelterbelts for livestock and reduced water evaporation, without disrupting their primary agricultural pursuits.
