Reynolds Carbon Project 3
ERF181138
Project Information:
Reynolds Carbon Project 3 is a soil carbon sequestration project located in the Shire of Goomalling, approximately 15 kilometers southeast of the town of Goomalling in the Western Australian Wheatbelt. Registered in November 2023, the project covers a 208-hectare area within a region heavily dedicated to mixed broadacre farming, primarily wheat, barley, lupin cropping, and sheep grazing.
The project operates under the 2021 Soil Carbon methodology, which allows landholders to earn Australian Carbon Credit Units (ACCUs) by increasing soil organic carbon stocks through changes in land management. Specific activities for this project include the targeted application of synthetic or non-synthetic fertilizers to address nutrient deficiencies and the rejuvenation of pastures through seeding or pasture cropping. By improving soil health and plant growth, the project aims to sequester atmospheric carbon into the soil profile.
Environmentally, the Goomalling region is characterized by a Mediterranean climate with cool, wet winters and hot, dry summers, receiving an average annual rainfall of approximately 370mm. The local landscape features the "sandplain" soils typical of the central Wheatbelt, often deep sands, sandy gravels, or duplex soils (sand over clay). These soil types can face challenges such as water repellence and acidity, making the soil management strategies employed by this project particularly relevant for restoring productivity and carbon potential. The project is facilitated by Agriprove, a major soil carbon developer who also manages the nearby Morrison Carbon Project, which was the first soil carbon project in Western Australia to be issued ACCUs.
