Reynolds Carbon Project 2
ERF181132
Project Information:
Reynolds Carbon Project 2 is a soil carbon sequestration project located in the Shire of Cunderdin, Western Australia. Situated approximately 25 kilometers north of the town of Meckering and roughly 20 kilometers southeast of Goomalling, the project covers 232.48 hectares of agricultural land. It was registered with the Clean Energy Regulator on November 21, 2023.
The project operates under the Carbon Credits (Carbon Farming Initiative, Estimation of Soil Organic Carbon Sequestration using Measurement and Models) Methodology Determination 2021. This methodology requires the project proponent to establish a baseline of soil organic carbon through physical soil core sampling. Following this, land management activities, such as the application of nutrients (synthetic or non-synthetic fertilizers) and the rejuvenation of pastures via seeding, are implemented to sequester additional carbon. Credits are issued based on the measured increase in soil carbon stocks over time, adjusted for any emissions generated by the project activities.
The project sits within the Avon Wheatbelt region, an area characterized by a Mediterranean climate with hot, dry summers and cool, wet winters. The region typically receives between 300mm and 450mm of annual rainfall, making water use efficiency critical for farming operations. The local landscape generally consists of undulating plains with soils that are predominantly sandy loams or duplex soils (sand over clay), which are common in the Western Australian wheatbelt and suitable for mixed cropping and sheep grazing.
AgriProve Solutions Co No.2 Pty Ltd serves as the proponent, leveraging their model of partnering with landholders to manage the complex compliance and measurement requirements of the soil carbon method. The project activities aim to address nutrient deficiencies and improve pasture density, which not only sequesters carbon but creates co-benefits such as improved soil health and water retention.
