Cohen Carbon Project 3

Project Information:

Cohen Carbon Project 3 is a soil carbon sequestration project located in the locality of Binbee, approximately 25km southwest of Bowen in the Whitsunday Region of Queensland. Registered in April 2024, the project covers 323.78 hectares of agricultural land primarily used for beef cattle grazing.

The project operates under the 2021 Soil Carbon methodology (Measurement and Models), which incentivizes landholders to adopt regenerative farming practices. Specifically, this project aims to increase soil organic carbon by altering the stocking rate, duration, and intensity of grazing. By managing grazing pressure, the project seeks to maintain better vegetation cover year-round, which enhances photosynthesis and root growth, ultimately driving more carbon into the soil.

Environmentally, the region falls within the dry tropics, characterized by a distinct wet season in summer and dry winters, with average annual rainfall between 800mm and 1,000mm. The landscape in the Bowen hinterland typically consists of duplex soils (sandy or loamy topsoil over clay subsoil) and areas of Vertosols (cracking clays), which are well-suited to the project's grazing-focused carbon activities. The existence of a "Cohen Carbon Project 1" suggests this is part of a staged or multi-lot aggregation managed by Agriprove on the same property.
