Rankin Carbon Project 5

Project Information:

Rankin Carbon Project 5 is a soil carbon sequestration project located near Frances in the Upper South East of South Australia, approximately 40km north of Naracoorte. The project was registered in December 2022 and covers an area of roughly 213 hectares.

The project operates under the 2021 Soil Carbon methodology, which credits landholders for measured increases in soil organic carbon stocks. To achieve this, the project involves a change in land management practices designed to boost soil health. Specific activities listed for this project include applying synthetic or non-synthetic fertilizers to address nutrient deficiencies, converting to reduced or no-tillage practices, retaining crop stubble, and rejuvenating pastures, likely through the introduction of multi-species fodder crops.

The Frances region is characterized by a Mediterranean climate with a medium rainfall averaging around 480mm to 500mm annually, supporting mixed farming and grazing industries. The local soil landscape typically consists of sandy loams over clay or calcareous soils, which are common in the Limestone Coast region. The project is facilitated by Agriprove Solutions, a prominent developer known for utilizing "Soilkee" pasture renovation technology to aggregate soil carbon projects across Australia.
