Sinclair Carbon Project 6

The process involves baseline soil sampling to measure existing carbon stocks, followed by the implementation of new management activities designed to increase those stocks over time. Credits (ACCUs) are issued based on the measured increase in soil carbon relative to the baseline, accounting for emissions from the project activities themselves.

The local environment in the Tatiara region typically experiences a Mediterranean-style climate with hot, dry summers and cool, wet winters, averaging an annual rainfall of approximately 450-550mm. The soils in this zone are variable but often feature sandy loams over clay or deep sands, which can be susceptible to erosion if not carefully managed. To address this and build carbon, the project activities include applying synthetic or non-synthetic fertilisers to correct nutrient deficiencies, converting to reduced or no-tillage practices to minimise soil disturbance, and retaining crop stubble to protect the soil surface and return organic matter to the earth.
