Glenbrae Carbon Project

Project Information:

Glenbrae Carbon Project is a soil carbon sequestration project located approximately 30km west of Manilla in the Gunnedah Shire of New South Wales. Registered in August 2023, the project covers 740 hectares of agricultural land typically used for grazing and mixed cropping. The region is situated on the North West Slopes and Plains, an area characterized by a warm temperate climate with summer-dominant rainfall averaging around 650mm annually. The local landscape features a mix of soil types, ranging from fertile cracking clays (Vertosols) in the valleys to lighter sedimentary loams on the undulating slopes.

The project operates under the 2021 Soil Carbon methodology, which rewards landholders for increasing Soil Organic Carbon (SOC) stocks over time. Unlike vegetation methods that rely on tree growth, this method requires a measured baseline of soil carbon followed by the implementation of new management activities. For Glenbrae, these activities include applying synthetic or non-synthetic nutrients to address soil deficiencies, re-establishing pastures through seeding, and altering grazing intensity to improve vegetation cover. The project is managed in partnership with Select Carbon, a subsidiary of Shell and a major service provider in the Australian carbon market, known for its focus on integrating carbon farming with productive agriculture.
