Adermann Carbon Project 4
ERF177623
Project Information:
Adermann Carbon Project 4 is a soil carbon sequestration project located approximately 5 kilometers south of Bordertown in the Tatiara District of South Australia. Registered in January 2024, the project covers roughly 76 hectares of agricultural land. The project is managed by Agriprove Solutions, a leading aggregator in the Australian soil carbon sector, and appears to be part of a larger series of carbon projects undertaken by the landholders on their property.
The Tatiara District is widely recognized as one of South Australia's most productive agricultural regions, often referred to as "Tatiara country." The area is characterized by a Mediterranean climate with winter-dominant rainfall averaging between 450mm and 500mm annually. The local soil profile typically consists of "Tatiara soils," which are generally fertile sandy loams or clay loams overlying clay subsoils, often exhibiting gilgai microrelief (undulations caused by shrinking and swelling clays). The region primarily supports broadacre cropping and livestock grazing, aligning with the project's operational context.
This project operates under the 2021 Soil Carbon methodology, which credits increases in soil organic carbon stocks resulting from changes in land management. To achieve this, the project has implemented specific Eligible Management Activities (EMAs), including the application of synthetic or non-synthetic fertilizers to address nutrient deficiencies and the retention of crop stubble. Stubble retention is a critical practice in this region, as it protects topsoil from wind erosion, a known risk in the Tatiara, while returning organic matter to the soil profile to build carbon stocks over time.
